Six Eminent Nigerians have been distinguished by the Ajayi crowther university, Oyo to be awarded honourary doctorate degrees on Wednesday. Among who are the Former Head of State Gen Yakubu Gowon, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Dapo Asaju, said during briefing to herald the school’s 2016 convocation ceremonies.
According to him, the awardees are being honoured for the positive roles they have played in educational development and the growth of their various communities.
Also to be honoured are Prof. Emeritus, Oladipo Akinkugbe; Chief Mrs. Folorunso Alakija; Chairman of Honeywell Group, Oba Otudeko; and a retired Chief Judge of Kwara State, Justice Timothy Oyeyipo.
The VC added that a total of 319 students would be awarded first degree certificates with 16 of them finishing in the first class category.
“At this year’s convocation, we shall be awarding honourary doctorate degrees to six eminent and highly distinguished personalities for their contributions to humanity. Among those who will be graduating this year, 16 students finished in the first class category while 66 finished in the second class upper class. A total of 126 students are in second class lower division while 111 students have third class,” he said.
Asaju added that as part of the expansion of the school, the Council of Legal Education had approved the law degree programme of the institution, which complemented the earlier approval granted by the National University Commission for the take off of the programme. The VC also said that NUC had approved the institution’s postgraduate school which would offer various programmes.
