FUNAAB Students Protest Over Insecurity

Students of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, stormed the campus of the institution to protest the frequent robbery happening within the school premises in recent time.

The students were not allowed to protest for long, as the Nigeria Police Force appeared at the scene on time to restore the peace. Some students were also reported to be arrested.

According to a statement by FUNAAB Students Union, Investigation have began and students arrested will be released with immediate effect.

The Union urges the student to cooperate with the Police, as their presence within the school environment is meant to bring the insecurity the students have been experiencing to an end and arrest the perpetrators.

Fellow funaabites, the students Union is using this medium to inform funaabites the events that happened today:

In order to curb the security challenges that we are currently facing on campus the area Commander of police, the division police officer of both obantoko and odeda ,metro police officers and men of the federal special anti-robbery squad with the executive of the students Union moved to various areas that are affected and finding strategies on how to find a lasting solution to our current situation.

I would like to tell funaabites that we are not behind the arrest of students but the police force have started investigation and they are trying to get rid of elements that would hinder our safety.

The police we want are here, let all cooperate with them and allow them to work and flush out elements that are threatening our safety.

We hope our security challenges would be resolved as soon as possible.

In addition, we using this meduim to state that we are not in support of the riot which took place today at isolu today, we should not encourage violence means to solve problems,students arrested during the protest that can identify their selves as students of this university would be released with immediate effect.

Lastly we urge students to always move around with their ID CARD or any means of identification especially those coming on campus starting from Monday 11th April 2016.
