Up to 50 undergraduate students from Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi are to be sponsored by Sokoto Cement Company as part of its corporate social responsibility to its immediate catchment communities.
Speaking while presenting bank drafts to the 10 students selected from Zamfara state in Gusau on Thursday, the Managing-director of the company, Alhaji Aminu Ibrahim said the beneficiaries were carefully selected after sitting for a qualifying exam.
He said the students would be supported with an annual sum of N100, 000 each for a period of four years of their studies in various institutions of higher learning in the country.
He said all the benefiting students would study science related courses under the close supervision and guardianship of the company.
While urging the beneficiaries to be of good behaviou, the managing-director said the students were now the company’s property and and would not condone indiscipline or poor performance from them.

Responding Zamfara Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Muktar Lugga, said the state government would remain ever willing to partner with individuals and corporate bodies in order to develop resources of the state.
The commissioner, who noted that there were thousands of indigenes of the state that required such support, said the beneficiaries should count themselves lucky and show appreciation by living up to the company’s expectations.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 10 students each were selected from Kebbi and Zamfara states while 30 were drawn from the company’s host state, Sokoto.
