Second set of Doctoral graduates under the West African Science Service Centre in Climate Change and Adopted Land Use (WASCAL), Graduate Research Program in West African Climate System has been graduated by the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
Speaking at the passing out ceremony of nine Doctor of Philosophy Graduates, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebiyi Daramola expressed elation at the commitment of the Centre to addressing the debilitating effects of Climate Change on the Sub Region.
He congratulated the graduands on what he described as a laudable feat and urged them to be good ambassadors of FUTA. His words “You have received world class education you must contribute your own quota to address the challenges facing our continent” Daramola commended them on their successful journey and urged them to utilize the knowledge acquired to enrich their respective countries.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the Director of WASCAL, Professor Kehinde Ogunjobi and the entire WASCAL staff for their immense contribution to the initiative.
Also speaking, Director, WASCAL, Professor Kehinde Ogunjobi said the Centre has improved human capacity in the area of Climate Science and its applications in the Sub region having produced 19 Ph.D. graduates cutting across the West African Sub-Region.
He commended the Vice-Chancellor for his unalloyed support to the progress of the Centre and also the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebisi Balogun whom he said “laid the strong foundation on which WASCAL stands today”.He implored the graduands to remain dedicated to their commitment to transform the Sub Region.
Thereafter the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Modupe Ajayi administered the matriculation oath on ten of the WASCAL Batch C matriculating students.
The matriculating students were charged by the Vice-Chancellor to take advantage of the pleasant environment for a productive academic pursuit.
