Academic activities were Wednesday paralyzed at Imo state University, Owerri, IMSU, as the students of Medical and Laboratory science of the faculty of Health Sciences paid glowing tributes to two of their course mates reportedly shot dead by gunmen last Friday on Kaduna – Jos expressway.
Reports have it that IMSU students who were on transit for an annual conference at University of Jos, Pleatau state, North central – Nigeria,were heat by stray bullets when armed robbers and security men engaged in a gun duel on the high way, leading to the instant deaths of Joy Ihezie and Faith Okere, two and four hundreds levels students, while several others were injured.
The students who were in all black attires, placards and pictures of their fallen course mates, paraded in and around the school campus, singing mourning songs in honor of the dead.
One of the morning students who soberly spoke to Okeomanews said that they were saddened by the devastating and ugly development of the death of two of their own.
The students who couldn’t control her tears, cried that the department was basking in the euphoria that it was going to have a formidable and credible representation at the annual conference only to be heat by the mind tearing news that two of its students had died through stray bullets.
She said that they have never been devastated as that before, because they were all in high spirits that its delegation to the National conference would do the department proud and come back with good news, only for their hope to be dashed with the death of two of its promising students.
The student said “the whole thing still sounds like a dream to us. Most of us are yet to come to terms with the reality that we have lost two of our course mates. We are saddened and shocked to our marrow. We don’t even know how to tell the ugly story”.
