Usman said this on Monday in Osogbo at a press briefing ahead of the sixth convocation ceremony of the university.

He said, “The university is graduating a total number of 198 students, out of which there are 17 first class graduands. 78 graduands are in second class upper division while 84 have been placed in the second class lower division and 19 are in the third class category.”

Noting that students of the university worked hard to earn their categories of degrees, the Vice-Chancellor said the university had been receiving commendations from employers of labour.

Usman also announced that the university would confer honorary doctoral degrees on the Pro-Chancellor of Osun State University, Mallam Yusuf Ali and the Deputy Secretary General of the Nigeria Supreme Council For Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Zakariyau Olayiwola.

According to him, the two Nigerians are being recognised for their contributions to the development of the education sector.

While urging the Federal Government to render assistance to private universities, Usman said that promoters of the privately- owned universities did not make profit from them.

He said private varsities should also be allowed to benefit from Tertiary Education Trust Fund.

He stated, “No private university can make bold to say that it breaks even. Also, over 70 per cent of those who write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination yearly are not admitted and it is the responsibility of the government to educate its citizens. If the private universities are sharing this responsibility with the government, then the TETfund should not be a forbidden thing for them.”
