5,615 students out of the 18,904 qualified candidates that seek admission into Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, (MOUAU), Abia State, for the 2016/2017 academic year have been admitted.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Francis Otunta, who stated this at the weekend during the 24th matriculation ceremony of the institution, said the National Universities Commission (NUC) only approves a quota of 4,300 candidates for the university and an attrition value, which the university senate decided to peg at 30 per cent bringing the total number of the matriculated students to 5,615.
Prof Otunta who said he was grateful that the admission process has been acclaimed as one devoid of racketeering and other unwholesome practices, insisted that the university’s programmes curricula are well structured and designed to bring to fore the creative genius in students.
He therefore charged the students to maximize their potentials and avail themselves unique opportunity by regularly attending lectures as well as shunning vices such as examination malpractices, cultism, prostitution, indecent dressing, among others.
