Some suspected members of a cult have injured four students of the Lagos State Polytechnic on Monday. The attackers were said to have stormed a private hostel in Lasunwon Lambe Estate in the area alleging that a thief who stole a laptop had run into the estate. They were repelled by residents of the hostel who said the thief was not in their premises. However, the suspected cultists regrouped and stormed the hostel around 9pm and demanded that a National Diploma student is released to them.
The Punch reports that the residents of the hostel had again refused to release the resident saying he had once complained that he was targeted by cultists for initiation. When the student was not released, the cultists attacked and wounded four students.
Saheed Ashafa, President of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria in Lagos State, lamented that the hostel attacked was predominantly occupied by male Muslim students of the institution. He said the matter had been reported to the school management and the police.
